The West Haven Animal Shelter posted a picture of a female, red husky to Facebook and said the dog was believed to have been abandoned around 8 p.m. that Saturday.
"It has come to our attention that this sweet girl was removed from a car and the driver proceeded to drive away," the shelter said. "The vehicle was described as a possible Green SUV."
The shelter said the dog, which is not microchipped, is now in their care and had on a red harness when it was found. The shelter said the dog was located in the area of Leete Street and Peck Avenue.
Desmond's Army Animal Law Advocates announced it is offering a $5,000 reward "for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the person(s) who dumped the red husky."
Anyone with information on the abandoned dog is asked to contact West Haven Animal Shelter at 203-937-3642 between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily.
