One often hears the statement, “dogs are man’s best friend.”
How true that is. They share their undying love, friendship and loyalty for a lifetime. According to Forbes Media 2024, 65.1 million households in the U.S. own at least one dog, making dogs the most popular pet in the country.
Famous American Cowboy, Will Rogers said, “if there are no dogs in heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.”
American Actor, Robert Wagner said, “A dog will teach you unconditional love. If you can have that in your life, things won’t be too bad.”
I think dog owners tend to agree with these quotes. How wonderful it is to come home to your special dog showing how happy they are that you’re back.
As the late Paul Harvey might say, “now, for the rest of the story.”
Not all humans who come in contact with dogs show them kindness. Some dogs are allegedly abused, neglected, tortured and killed by people. The Connecticut Office of Legislative Research has some information and statistics on this.
Have you heard of Desmond’s Army Animal Law Advocates? I’ve been amazed and encouraged finding out they have been a voice for the voiceless abused and neglected dogs in Connecticut.
They’re a group of volunteer citizens who work together to better the lives of animals. They are a voice for the voiceless in the courts and at the Capitol. The full mission and purpose of Desmond’s Army can be found on facebook and their website: www.desmondsarmy.org
A safe place to live and sleep, healthful food, medical care and affection…if only all dogs had this kind of attention. I hope someday there is a way for all dogs to have a happy life.
