MANCHESTER, Conn. — Manchester Animal Control is looking for the person responsible for abandoning a dog on Case Mountain.

They said the dog was recovered by someone hiking in the area. The dog yelped to get the person's attention and was found tied to a tree by its collar.

People in Manchester are wondering why someone would leave the dog in the woods. They call the actions of the person who did this shameful.

"Absolutely reprehensible. I have heard of stories of other dogs being abandoned and tied up along the highway. There is something seriously wrong with somebody who would do this to a defenseless animal," said Craig Cinquemani, after he heard a dog was abandoned on Case Mountain.

Animal control said the pit bull was found Monday, tied to a tree and desperate to escape. Now the search is on to find the person who did it.

"It looked like a puppy and that made me extra sad. I hope they find whoever this and prosecute them," Katie Protulis said.

Animal control is asking people to give them a call if they have seen any lost dog social media posts that feature a pit bull with white hair on its neck, chest, stomach and the underside of its paws, wearing a black leather collar with silver studs.

They are also urging people who know a friend, neighbor or family member whose dog recently went missing and matches the description to give them a call.

The incident stunned dog owners Cinquemani and Protulis, who are wondering how someone could do this.

"Hopefully they can find the person who did this or persons have been found and will be dealt with accordingly, because that is just reprehensible behavior," Cinquemani said.

Protulis noted that there are places people can bring their dogs if they don't want them, as opposed to abandoning them.

"You should never abandon your dog. You can bring your dog to animal control if you can't take care of it for some reason," Protulis said.

Another organization is joining the effort to find the person ditched the dog on Case Mountain.

Desmond’s Army, an animal rights organization, is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who has information that leads to the arrest or prosecution to the person responsible.

People can call Manchester Animal Control at (860) 645-5516.

Who ever did this should be tied to the tree and see how they like it with no food and no water. If you don’t want your animals they have places to drop them off. What’s wrong with people today.

Again innocent animals should be dealt with accirfingly( for example, having the person who did this, and their children who are obviously innocent, ha ha, be put in the same position as the animal was found. Survival skills are probably necessary, but being tied up with your neck in a studded collar tied to a tree might prove to be a challenge after all. See if they can survive.
